Leon & July
Leon & July is a feature film currently in development, set in Kentucky during the late 1800s.
Although I’ve spent the last several years writing, studying the craft, and contributing to a handful of independent film projects, this marks my return to writing, directing and producing my own work.
My first short film Screened, like many independent productions, encountered challenges that left it waiting in post-production, but from the experience, I’ve changed the way I approach storytelling. Leon & July feels like the right project to return to now, bringing together everything I’ve learned over the years.
I enjoy writing period pieces. Whether a story takes place in the late 1800s or the 1990s, I love creating worlds that feel immersive—somewhere to step into for a while.
There were times I stepped away from this project due to health issues, but more importantly, I questioned whether audiences even wanted historical dramas anymore. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go that far back myself.
But now we’re witnessing history being ripped from us, rewritten, whitewashed, or dismissed, depending on who is telling it. I believe these stories matter. I believe the truth matters.
It’s the right time to tell this one.
Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing more of the journey and the story .
